About Me

With a family background in art and design I became interested in the creative process at a very early age. We were lucky enough to get a Macintosh SE computer in 1990 and I became fascinated by the power of these new and powerful machines. Soon afterwards my interests spread out into web design, computer programming and I’ve never looked back.

In February 2016 I joined the Matchbook betting exchange as CTO and took responsibility for their technological strategy and its delivery. Despite the challenges of working in a highly regulated industry, over the past two years we rebuilt and relaunched the site’s betting platform using an event driven micro-service architecture. Matchbook now processes over 700 million API requests per day, handles more than 10 million bets per day, and manages billions of dollars in transactions each year. My team currently consists of just 62 people across five departments, Engineering, Infrastructure, Data Analytics, Production Support and Corporate IT. Together we deliver consistently high quality software into one of the most competitive regulated industries in the World.

In 2012 I co-founded Kitman Labs, and was the CEO during the startups’ first three years. Kitman is currently one of Ireland’s most exciting technology companies, solving the problem of injuries in professional sport. Between 2012 and 2015 I raised a total of US $4.5 Million for the company through three investment rounds – seed, angel and a Series A with Bluerun Ventures based in Silicon Valley. I am very proud of the engineering team I built at Kitman, which was a talented group of product designers, software engineers and other startup specialists with previous experience in Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, and Intercom. Kitman now employs 40 people across two offices (Dublin and Palo Alto, CA). Its customers are some of the biggest sports teams in the World including the LA Dodgers, the Miami Dolphins, Everton FC, and Irish Rugby. In 2014, Kitman was named Startup of the Year at the IIA Net Visionary Awards.

Prior to founding Kitman Labs, I also co-founded debs.ie in 2011, a debs website for Ireland which attempted to change how debs balls are booked and organised throughout the country.

In 2010 I merged my web consultancy business with the digital ad agency CKSK and joined them as CTO. While I was there, we quadrupled in size, opened offices in New York and Amsterdam, won the company’s first global account, and won several industry awards. I also oversaw the fit-out of the company’s award winning Dublin headquarter offices. Clients included Vhi, Irish Life, Heineken, Sony PlayStation, Pepsico, Danone and MCD.

Prior to this, I was the Managing Director at a Dublin based web development consultancy called Webstrong for many years where my team and I built web apps for all types of businesses from startups to large multinationals, agencies, betting companies, pharmaceuticals, and non-profits. It was a whirlwind, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Consulting is the path to a product business. If you dream of running a SaaS based web app, start with a consultancy. You’ll learn life long lessons and pickup all the skills you need to make your idea a success.

I graduated from IT Carlow in 2005 with a BSc. in IT Management.
